I saw on a Martha Stewart episode the author of Super Baby Food, Ruth Yaron. She suggested the old-fashioned stainless steel ice cube trays as to not worry about plastic being in the baby food. I also registered for this book, and it has many great tips and recipes. But then if you worry about the metallic, taste, you could get like the Tubberware kind with lids. Ice cube trays work great because it portions out the food in 1 oz. sections, and you can keep track of how much your baby(ies) are eating that way.
My aunt bought me The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet by Karin Knight and Tina Ruggiero. I liked how this book described how you should really being making and storing the baby food.
Breaking it down into basic steps here it is:
I started with peaches. I tried cooking them first to peel the skins off, then dicing and mixing, but I found it easier to peel and dice, then cook. I use an immersion blender as opposed to a blender or food processor because it's less clean up. I add a tiny bit of water while it's cooking and when they're done, I pour it into the ice cube trays, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze. When the food is frozen, I label bags with the contents, and date, and 3 months later so I know when I need to use it up by.
I did pears next, and it's the same process. I peel, cut, add water, cook 8-10 min, blend with mixer, pour and freeze.
I've done bananas, this is the one I was told to definitely buy organic, as the skins are so porous, the bananas can hold pesticides. With a banana, I just mush it up and feed it to them without cooking or freezing.
When you go to feed your baby(ies), I either pull the food out and let it thaw out ahead of time, or I pop it in the microwave.
I'll try and keep you updated on other recipes I try!
